Over the years, CNU has perfected the art of conversation at our Congresses. CNU provides forums that are lively, fun and engaged. This year, the Salons take place on Friday, May 11, between 7:30 and 10 p.m. at O'Shea's Irish Pub, 531 Clematis St. in West Palm Beach.

Steve Mouzon Receives 2nd Annual Michael Barranco Award
Steve Mouzon, founder of the New Urban Guild and “Original Green” advocate, will become the first living person to receive the Michael Barranco Award honoring the memory of Jackson, Mississippi architect Michael Barranco, who was killed in a 2011 car crash. It’s given to an individual who has not only distinguished themselves in design but who has also demonstrated “a gift for building enduring relationships beyond architecture, inspiring passionate coalitions for transformative change in the lives of families and communities.”

Sprawl Retrofit Salon
Meet with leaders of The Sprawl Retrofit initiative. The Sprawl Retrofit initiative combines the efforts of a large group of New Urbanists to create practical and effective tools for communities and their governments for transforming suburban sprawl into complete, walkable and resilient places. At the Miami retreat held in March 2012, the group started work on Diagnostic Tools, Incentives, Alternatives for Wall Street, Visual Best Practices and a preamble/ manifesto document.

New Urbanism and the Black Community
Kristen Jeffers, aka "The Black Urbanist," will be holding this salon to expand on her work as "a young black woman attempting to create real community."
